Educational business to put individual focus on students

Democrat and Chronicle May 18, 2012  Ernst Lamothe Jr.

As a 17-year elementary school teacher, Amy Braband has seen myriad new teaching techniques and procedures.
She said it seems like every other year, there are new studies trying to reinvent the profession. But with school budgets being cut nationwide, many of the new initiatives that teachers want to pursue often are not possible with time constraints.

Seeing that shift, Braband decided to be an entrepreneur and do something about it.
She is starting Blossom Elementary Learning Extension, a kindergarten through fifth-grade after-school educational opportunity for students. It is an academic environment where her mission is for children to grow and have fun through learning, with state-certified teachers.

“It allows students a chance to study topics not currently offered at the elementary level, and they can receive extra help in those topics,” said Braband, a fourth-grade teacher at Plank North Elementary in Webster. “It is an academic environment for a child to grow through learning. A lot of parents are searching for these programs outside of the regular classroom for their kids.”
